In response to how COVID-19 has affected the way we work and communicate internally or with clients, customers, and prospects there’s no doubt your organisation has now chosen a preferred video sharing/chat platform. In this post we take a top level look at Microsoft Teams.
Microsoft Teams, your hub for teamwork – let’s get started
If your organisation already has Office 365, then you may already have access. When you login to Office 365, just take a look for the Teams icon.
If your organisations’ licence doesn’t include Teams, then you should take advantage of the current offer from Microsoft and get Office 365 E1 free for six months (this includes Teams). Talk to the team at Turnkey to learn more about accessing this offer.
If you are looking for Teams for personal use, you can sign up here. It might be also worth checking out Skype from Microsoft. The free version also has chat, call and video options and may be a better option for individuals.
Understanding the basics
Microsoft have created this quick start guide, you can view this below:
IT Admin – managing settings for your organisation
Pop over to the Microsoft Teams admin center to manage apps and the Team app for your organisation. For example, you can set policies to control what apps are available org-wide or to specific Teams users and you can customise Teams by pinning the apps that are most important for your users.
We are here to help – if you need assistance getting setup, talk to the team at Turnkey. Whether it’s just a simple activation, or a more customised session, our team can advise you on what’s best for you.
You can access Teams using a web client, or you can download the desktop client to Windows or Mac. Refer to this article from Microsoft for step to step guidance.
Supported mobile platforms for Microsoft Teams mobile apps are the following:
- Android: Support is limited to the last four major versions of Android. When a new major version of Android is released, the new version and the previous three versions are officially supported.
- iOS: Support is limited to the two most recent major versions of iOS. When a new major version of iOS is released, the new version of iOS and the previous version are officially supported.
Mobile apps are distributed and updated through the respective mobile platform’s app store.
We'll set up the basics for our IT Infrastructure customers for free. This means you can get up and running quickly. If you need further training or a more complicated configuration, then we will provide you with the proposed costs and timescales.
If you are an existing Turnkey customer, drop us an email or call the team on 0141 644 5444 to discuss your options.
* New in March 2020, a free 6-month Office 365 E1 Trial, including Microsoft Teams, is now available. Microsoft is making this special E1 Trial license available in response to the increased need for employees to work from home (WFH) in response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.
This offer is intended for any customer that’s managed by a Microsoft account rep. It’s for organisations – including nonprofits – who haven’t activated any other Office 365 E1 trials in the past.
After you’ve used your E1 Trial promo code, you can’t use it again, nor can you activate another E1 Trial code. In these cases, you can have your employees activate a Teams Exploratory license.
